World Alzheimer’s Day

The World Alzheimer Report 2010 was released today. Over $600 billion in costs of Alzheimer’s and related dementia was highlighted in the report.
Conclusions in the report include:
- .5% of the world’s population live with dementia.
- costs are lower in developing countries because of reliance on informal care from family and friends.
- cost of dementia will soar with the aging of the population.
- there is an urgent need for cost effective packages of medical and social care.
