An important part of National Women’s Health Week is the day set aside to encourage checkups. Monday, May 14 is that day! This day is a great reminder to schedule a checkup, get a checkup and promote regular checkups. Take the pledge for women’s health. Heart disease, cancer and stroke are the top three leading causes of death in women. The Department of Health and Human Services stresses regular checkups, being physically active, eating a healthy diet, not smoking and following general safety rules for improving women’s health.

Let the women in your life know the importance of a regular checkup. Mom, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. The home of helpful products as we age, www.PersonCare.net, wants your loved ones to stay healthy for a long time.

National Health Care Decisions Day is April 16. It is a great reminder to start the process of an advance health care directive for the people you care about and that care about you. The older you get the more important an advance health care directive is, but even a young adult needs one as well. An accident can leave family members with questions about what you may want with end of life decisions.

To get started, see the April Health Care News from PersonCare.net. Follow the links to excellent resources for help in the decisions you need to make while you still can. Good health is the best time to make decisions on a living will and the health care power of attorney. Start now in case there is not time later.

An advance health care directive is about you and your wishes. But it is for the people you leave behind.

Brain Injury Awareness Month is March and falls prevention is a critical part of the awareness you need to have.

March is an important time for Brain Injury Awareness. Anytime and anywhere brain injuries occur. Over 1.7 million Americans sustain a brain injury each year. Every brain injury is different. Falls account for over one third of all the brain injuries and the elderly account for the largest number of falls.

PersonCare.net specializes in falls prevention help. As a caregiver, be sure to review all the possible ways to make everything safer for your loved. In the sleeping area, the bathroom, the stairway and even the car are important areas to make falls prevention a highest priority. This is a good month, Brain Injury Awareness Month, to do a falls prevention checkup.

Know the top ten senior list for the holidays. Find out about their medications, their medical info, their memory and more . . .

When you go home during the holidays don’t just bring Santa’s list. Here is a more important list for senior parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, other relatives and close friends:

Medications – what types, how often and are they being taken?

Car Travel – what is their driving ability, do they know their way and do they need help entering and exiting the car?

Vision – can they read the paper, can they see the road and are they using their glasses?

Medical Info – where is it, do they have necessary information together and who to call?

Walking – can they move around on their own, are they using anything to help them and do their shoes fit?

Hearing – do they hear what you say, can they hear at a distance and are they using any aids?

Memory – are they repeating themselves, do they forget what you just said and have they had a memory screening?

Exercise – what do they do for their brain, for their body and their spirit?

Home – are the throw rugs gone, are everyday items easily accessible and what happens if they fall?

Future – what to do if their health changes, or their spouse passes away and what about the Advance Health Care Directive?

Knowledge is power. And what you don’t know could hurt the people you care about. Take time this holiday season to learn more. And before your visit home, make a visit to Gifts For Seniors.

Special holiday happiness from PersonCare.net.

National Memory Screening Day on November 15 is a perfect time for a baseline memory screening.

This day is a great time to establish a baseline for your memory to compare it to memory screenings in the future. Similar to what is done when an athlete has a concussion. Medical staff compare now with a pre-concussion screening. This comparison is critical to the proper diagnosis. A baseline memory screening works like this.

Or take advantage of the screening if you are experiencing any of the dementia warning signs like personality changes, trouble finding words or misplacing familiar items. Find a free memory screening site in your area at Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
